WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (FEBRUARY 28, 2019) — In collaboration with River Valley Regional YMCA and YWCA Northcentral PA, the Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation (WASDEF) is pleased to announce the return of Over the Edge: Williamsport this fall.
The event, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, is a fundraising partnership between the three nonprofits.
OTE allows members of the community to voluntarily commit to raise at least $1,000 for the nonprofit of their choice — or have it divided evenly among all three — in a daring exchange to rappel from the top of the Lycoming County Housing Authority’s William Hepburn High Rise apartment building downtown.
The nonprofits banded together in 2018 to bring the event to the city for the first time last fall, collectively raising more than $50,000 for their organizations through the efforts of about 70 “edgers.”
“Our first event brought awareness and excitement to our three agencies,” said Chad Eberhart, CEO of River Valley Regional YMCA. “Building on last year’s energy, we are planning to bring in more participants, more sponsors and more funds.”
According to Dawn Linn, YWCA Northcentral PA CEO, the collaboration is especially impactful to the community.
“We know that our programs touch so many of the same lives,” she said, “and we are excited to support each other as we make sure everyone in our community has access to safety, education and health improvement resources.”
Registration is now open for all those ready and willing to act boldly for the benefit of their community through the work of these organizations.
Once signed up, each edger will receive a personalized webpage and toolkit to guide them through the fundraising process, according to Greg Hayes, executive director of WASDEF.
“In addition to that, we’re available to provide tips, best practices, special opportunities and unique ideas for them,” he said. “They’ll also be invited to a free VIP reception the night before the event where they can meet each other, celebrate — and be celebrated — for the work they’ve done to benefit our organizations.”
